Mermaid Sequins & Stripes Panties
I found these swarovski crystal beads in my sewing cabinet…( yeah, I just have some “laying around,” I’m a sewing supply hoarder) they make great photo props! Especially paired with these sequined panties.  The sequin fabric is amazing – slightly matte sequins, so unusual and mermaid-like. I have this fabric in grey and sugar-pink.
Chevron Bra & Panties Set

You might recognize this jersey fabric from This Post .  I love this shade of grey.  I cut it on the bias to create a chevron stripe set, paired with some pink.  Neat, huh?

Midnight Blue

After Midnight Cheeky Knickers
I found this midnight-blue stretch satin and snatched up several yards of it.  It feels so amazing on and the colour is just gorgeous.  Navy is such a nice alternative to black…

After Midnight Bias Cut Camisole
My local fabric store has been offering up lots of good finds lately.  The lace on this set is so nice, cottony and stretchy. I have it in two colours – cream and taupe.

Ooh La La Pin Up Sew Along Pt. 3… Give Away! CLOSED

Uncategorized
To Kick off the 3rd instalment of our Pin Up Sew Along, I am giving away a copy of my PDF “Betty” High Waist Panties Pattern.  It contains sizes xs-lg (34″ hip to 41″ hip), and is easily grade-able. These knickers have been designed for Stretch Knits, but I will show you how to make them accommodate a woven front and back panel. They use about 1 yard of fabric, but because of the princess seaming, you can mix and match fabrics easily, and use up some scraps from your stash!
Here’s how to enter:
  1. Leave a comment on this post letting me know how you’ll be sewing your Betty Knickers – stretch satin, lace, jersey? Please also leave me an email address where I can contact you if you are the lucky winner!
  2. Like Ohhh Lulu on Facebook for an additional Entry
  3. Tweet (@OhhhLulu) or Blog about the Give Away and Sew along for a 3rd entry.
I’ll be accepting Entries from TODAY (Monday, April 9th) and Drawing a name on Friday, April 13th.
Good Luck! And thanks everyone for your input along the way!

THIS GIVE AWAY IS NOW CLOSED! Congratulations Melody – You are the winner!

Sneak Peek…

Uncategorized

I’m super behind where I hoped to be, but here is a sneak peek at my new pattern collection.  I am working on two Bra’s to go with.  I cut and sewed all 4 sizes of the knickers today and they go together nicely!

Monday Already?

Uncategorized
Wait… Wasn’t I just whining about it being Monday?  I guess it’s technically not Monday yet, but it sure feels like it.
I had a crazy busy weekend, trying to get things wrapped up. I’ve been obsessing over the idea of digitizing patterns to sell for the last week… I spent most of the day Saturday trying to figure out how to do it without breaking down and buying Illustrator.  I have managed to figure it out, between GIMP, a PDF Converter and good old Paint, I think I’ve got a method.  I even managed to print out, and sew a test run.

I am hoping to have my shop re-stocked in about 2 weeks with more ready made and made to order goodies, including the new high-waisted style above.  I am also hoping to have a few pdf patterns as well!

Ohh La La Pin Up Sew Along Pt 2… Sewing adjustable straps

Uncategorized
I wanted to add straps that are adjustable, but not too utilitarian looking, so I have cut a strip of bias tape approximately 1 1/2″ wide, as well as two lengths of strap elastic.  I also have 2 plastic o-rings and 2 plastic sliders.

I sewed my bias tape into a long tube (1/4″ seam allowance), turned it right side out, and pressed it flat. I then cut it into to strips about 11″ long.

I looped my bias straps around my o-rings, and did the same with my strap elastic and sliders (looping around the middle bar). I tacked them down with a narrow zig-zag stitch.

Next, I fed my strap elastic through my o-ring, and back down, weaving it into my slider.

… making an adjustable strap! Don’t have sliders? Do you have an old beat-up bra laying around? Why not harvest it for parts?  When I was first learning how to make lingerie, I tore apart all my old, unwearable bras,  and used the parts to practice.

I then tacked it into place onto my bra…. And That is it!

To complete the our ensemble, I am working ever-so-hard on a digital pattern of my NEW “Betty” High-Waist Panties… Stay tuned for more info! I am hoping to have it ready to go within the week.

I make myself laugh…

Uncategorized

I was home all day working away at my sewing machine, trying to finish up a few more orders.  It was quite the feat too, it’s been unseasonably warm out and I just want to laze around outside…

But, instead I sewed all day, did laundry, dealt with some day job emails, and hunted and hunted all over my house for a small piece of white, foldover elastic I had left on my sewing table.. I swear, I spent an hour searching for it…

And, just now I found it… in the canister of my vacuum which is sitting beside me.  I am constantly loosing things… I never would have though to have looked in the vacuum.

Juggling!

Uncategorized

It looks like there is quite a bit of interested in an Ohhh Lulu Pattern Shop.  I’m still not sure if this is something I want to do, but I do really appreciate the input! If I were to sell kits or patterns, would you like the option of  a PDF or Hard Copy Pattern? I’d love to offer a paper pattern, in an envelope with some cute artwork on it, but I know for myself, I usually just buy the PDF version.

I also am working on a new line of goodies, but am having a debate in my head… Because I am juggling a full time job with Ohhh Lulu, I often find myself running short on time.  Right now I have virtually nothing in my shop and it’s really stressing me out, but I’m not sure which way I want to take Ohhh Lulu.  As a customer, would you rather see:

1. A bunch of ready to ship, one or two of a kind sets, each sewn in a variety of sizes.
2. A made to order collection that changes seasonally
3. A Collection of ready made garments sewn in multiple sizes
4. A combination of option 1 & 2

I posted a couple polls on my facebook page this morning, so maybe you’ve already answered my questions there. Thanks so much for your input!

New Patterns and Pieces

Uncategorized
Aside from the Sew Along, I’ve been busy drafting new patterns for a new collection of pieces, more 40’s and 40’s inspired, more utilitarian and less ruffled. I’ll still have some ruffles, but just a little less. These pieces will have lots of stretch mesh, interesting lines, appliquéd lace bows and hearts, and will involve classic prints like polka dot, leopard print, and some unique, large florals. It is pretty different from my ruffle bloomers… and I hope people will like it!

I’ve been obsessing over Pinterest lately, and have created a board almost entirely of vintage lingerie and swim suits. I’ve been drawing a lot of inspiration from the stitching lines used in retro lingerie, as well as the insertion lace & appliqués, and bubble hip bathing suits of the ’50s. The flounce top with the scalloped edge is going to have insertion sequin mesh, if I can figure out how to make it look just right. For now, I’ve just pinned on the rough design I’d like to use.

I have also been toying with the idea of selling patterns, but I don’t know whether I would be shooting myself in the foot, or if people would even be interested!
